I have been guilty of sifting through the cheap 2 for 1 selections of jewelry in the depths of a random bin at forever 21. Through my search and suffering of the blaring techno-pop music from the store speakers I may find something worthy of a few wears before it inevitably falls apart but nothing compares to the hand-made, unique designs of the few pieces of jewelry I own made by designers I know.
One such designer I recently befriended is Amanda Espy. Not only is this chick rad because she dances like a champ and carries on great conversation over drinks but because she has developed a unique combination of art and psychology fused into her jewelry line known as POTHOS.
Pothos is Greek for ‘longing’. Is Amanda Greek? nope, but she was inspired by a former Greek lover who quite literally inspired her to go for her goals and in that her longing is fulfilled in many ways by creating beautiful pieces of wearable art. Now that is the start of a good story.
Amanda has a background in fine arts as a trained pattern maker and seamstress as well as having a psychology degree. She works as a therapist counseling 7-10 people at a time and her focus is to help people access their creative process and in turn Amanda herself accesses her creative process and the result is Pothos.
The unique shapes and brass and silver creatures you will find in her designs are given life from a variety of inspiration she finds from from inquisitive research of Native American culture, ancient gods, artifacts, the studies of Carl Jung and basically, in her own words, ‘humanity’.

This piece is my favorite. It wraps around the back. Very sexy.

I visited Amanda at her studio as she prepared her displays (that she made herself) for an upcoming event she will showcase her treasures at called Create Fixate, November 9th 2013. She is also working on a special order of wedding rings which she is personalizing for the lucky couple by using actual pieces of the land they will live on in the band.
If you want to see more of her designs, make a custom order or you simply just want to adorn your body with something original, sexy and made with real integrity and quality then you should check out Pothos. ShopPothosNow
